Surrey Hills Apartments / Office

Ardent were commissioned to develop a high density proposal for clients site that had a number of restrictions. The site is very narrow (12m) with a 30° slope and only a 3m lane way access to the rear.

We developed the design based on the idea of having to use a car lift to access each basement level of parking. This approach was required due to the narrow nature of the block inhibiting the use of ramps.

The building utilises a sunken courtyard for the ground floor apartments due to the severe angle of the land. The courtyard was designed to be of a size that sunlight will drench it from morning through to early afternoon.

The roof has been utilised to provide a common entertaining area for all the apartments and is covered in a new synthetic grass to provide a soft, garden like finish to the area. The roof top balcony has stunning views over the surrounding neighborhood.
